Creamy & cheesy; overflowing with crab meat, green onions & spices, my Mom’s Easy Cheesy Crab Dip is perfect for Game Day! It’s a go-to recipe for our family gatherings, and an oft-requested addition at parties. This yummy dip can be simply served, warm and bubbly, in a casserole dish with crackers and chips to dip. Or, it can be spread on thin slices of French bread and baked in the oven to create a craveworthy canapé. Either way, it’s crab-solutely awesome!
Crab-Ulous Wine Pairings
We all know the rule: Red wine with red meat; White wine with fish and seafood. But did you know that champagne and other sparkling wines make a perfect pairing with food from the sea? Champagne and sparkling wines can elevate even the best seafood dish; as their crisp notes complement the mild, sweet flavor of crab, shrimp, oysters, and other shellfish.
Mom’s Easy Cheesy Crab Dip paired with a sparkling semi-sweet white wine or Prosecco? Sounds like a recipe for a party to me!
Ingredients for Mom’s Easy Cheesy Crab Dip:
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 c. mayonnaise
- 1/2 c. sour cream
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. lemon juice, divided
- 1/2 c. chopped green onions
- 1 can of crab meat, OR 1 c. imitation crab meat, chopped
- 1/2 c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 Tbsp. fresh minced garlic
- Old Bay Seasoning and black pepper, to taste
Instructions for Mom’s Easy Cheesy Crab Dip:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- If using canned crab meat, drain crab meat thoroughly and place in a medium-sized bowl. If using imitation crab meat, roughly chop 1 cup of the crab meat and place in a medium-sized bowl.
- Sprinkle the crab meat with approximately 1/2 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, and 1/2 tsp. lemon juice. Stir to coat and allow the crab to sit in the marinade for 5-10 minutes.
- Then, place the crab meat in a large bowl and blend all remaining ingredients thoroughly, including the remaining 1/2 tsp. lemon juice, additional Old Bay Seasoning and black pepper, to taste. (I prefer to use my stand mixer with the paddle attachment. However, a hand-held mixer or wooden spoon may be used.)
- As mentioned, you can finish up my Mom’s Easy Cheesy Crab Dip in one of two ways. You may either: Spread the crab dip into a small casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees F for 30-40 minutes, until warm and bubbly. Serve with chips and crackers.
- Or: Before baking, spread the crab dip on thinly-sliced French bread and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes, until crab dip begins to bubble and bread is crisp. (This is both my mom’s and my favorite way to eat it!)
