It’s Close to Midnight…
What Halloween kitchen playlist would be complete without Michael Jackson’s timeless classic: “Thriller?” No matter your feelings about the artist, you can’t deny this catchy creature-themed tune. I mean who here has never reenacted those zombie-like dance moves, living their best afterlife; while attempting to recreate the iconic music video (and/or that scene from “13 Going on 30,” with the adorable Mark Ruffalo)?
And Something Evil’s Lurking in the Dark.
It may sound strange but, the song: “Thriller,” always makes me think of my spouse. Let me explain: My husband, Josh, and I have attended multiple weddings together, over the many, many years we dated before our own wedding. One of my fondest memories of our dating exploits was the first wedding we attended together in his home state of Tennessee. We hadn’t been together for very long at the time, and I was excited to go to a “real southern wedding.” It did not disappoint.
Under the Moonlight…
One of his old high school buddies was getting married in a beautifully-renovated barn that sat atop a hill, overlooking a stream. To be clear, this was many years ago, before everyone was getting married in a refurbished barn. The bride and groom were delivered to the ceremony in a souped-up, jacked-up pickup truck with mud on the tires and the catchy country tune: “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck,” blaring through the truck’s stereo speakers.
You See a Sight That Almost Stops Your Heart.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the reception. Josh twirled me around that ol’ wooden dance floor like a whirling dervish to Alabama’s “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas.” Later, when the opening notes to “Thriller,” blasted through the speakers, all of the guys (my husband included) lined up and performed a superb rendition of the dance we all know and love. To this day, I can usually talk him into at least a small snippet of his smooth criminal dance moves whenever “Thriller” plays. I mean, if you’ve got it, haunt it, right?
